Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially recognized driving licenses from 43 countries, allowing holders to convert their licenses within the city easily. The new official announcement is excellent for international residents in Dubai, as it makes driving legally easier without taking extra tests.
Where To Convert Your International License In Dubai
Residents from the listed countries can convert their existing driving licenses at Customer Happiness Centers around Dubai, including Umm Ramool, Al Twar, Deira, Al-Kifaf, Al-Barsha, and Al-Manara, with an additional facility available at the car registration center in Hatta.
Required Documents for Driving License Conversion
The process for converting a license is easy but requires several specific documents. Applicants must present their original driving license, a valid Emirates ID, and, if applicable, a legally translated version of their license if it is outside of Arabic or English. The aforementioned process must be conducted in person; however, residents can send a legal representative to complete it.
Particularly for residents from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, their licenses must be valid at the time of application to avoid the cancellation of their original licenses.
Fees Associated With Driving License Conversion
The costs associated with replacing a driving license in Dubai include a 200 AED fee for opening a replacement file, a 600 AED fee for issuing the license itself, a 50 AED fee for a traffic booklet, and a 20 AED fee for innovation and knowledge. The total cost thus rounds up to approximately 900 AED. The RTA offers multiple payment methods for these fees, including through the Ministry of Interior’s payment gateway, which accepts credit cards and digital wallets like Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay.
Dubai has become a more welcoming and accessible global hub by recognizing international driving licenses and making it easier to convert them. The new policy makes it easier for international residents in Dubai to move around and helps the city to be more efficient and customer-friendly.
